Community Engagement Conference
Texas Tech University System
March 27, 2009
"Community-Engaged Scholarship: What does it mean, why does it matter, and how are we getting there"
Community engagement is at the heart of Texas Tech University System's commitment to "meaningful research and service to humankind." We seek to promote teaching, research, and service that have a direct impact on our larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) and create mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources.
Community engagement requires new understandings, new skills, and different ways of conceptualizing community scholarship. For this purpose, Texas Tech University System is planning its first annual engagement conference on March 27, 2009. Under the theme, "Community-Engaged Scholarship: What does it mean, why does it matter, and how are we getting there," the conference seeks to heighten awareness and understanding of engaged teaching, research and service activity, and highlight the need for scholarship that is rooted in mutually beneficial collaborations with our communities. The conference is relevant to academic departments, research centers, Continuing Education, Cooperative Extension, Distance Education Outreach Councils, governmental relations, foundations, funding agencies, Institutional development, and many others.
Additional information regarding conference details will be forthcoming.
